The 4th Session of the Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management and Pacific Regional Water and Sanitation Consultations held in New Caledonia from the 17th – 21st September 2012 enabled the water and sanitation community from the Pacific region to come together after almost ten years with the intended purpose of achieving three main objectives:

• To consider and contribute to an agreed framework for the management of water and sanitation across the Pacific which will form the basis for a revised and updated Pacific Regional Action Plan on Sustainable Water Management (Pacific RAP)
• To consider and contribute to the dialogue, knowledge and understanding of Disaster Risk Management, Climate Change and Water security with a view to strengthening relationships between these communities
• Providing sectoral input to the process of developing the post 2015 Integrated Regional Strategy on Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change 

The 2013 Joint Meeting of the Pacific Platform for DRM and Pacific Climate Change Roundtable will provide a further opportunity to continue  the dialogue and development of the revised Pacific Regional Action Plan on Sustainable Water Management and gather additional inputs towards the development of the Integrated Regional Strategy on Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change
